Overview

Yodabox is a startup that believes every child deserves a shot at success. There is a deficit of 65.2 thousand classrooms in Nigeria alone, and Yodabox is on a mission to negate the effects of this deficit the most accessible way possible.

The Big Problem

In Northern Nigeria, expensive education costs prevent countless children aged 3 to 12 from accessing transformative, high-quality learning opportunities.

➊ High Costs: Quality education is often unaffordable for many families.

➋ Poor Infrastructure: Schools lack adequate facilities and resources.

➌ Teacher Shortages: There’s a significant deficit of skilled educators.

➍ Cultural Barriers: Socio-cultural norms limit access, especially for girls.

The Goal

Design innovative solutions that break down the barriers to quality education in low-income regions. Our vision is a world where every child’s education costs less than $2 per month, making high-quality learning accessible to all. The Yodabox ecosystem of products were designed to;

❋ Encourage Parental involvement in childs education

❋ Allow for ease of deplyment at school and home

❋ Allow for ease of operation, payment and update

❋ All while remaining playable offline on TV

The Approach

✦ User Research: Conduct in-depth research to understand problems and identify root causes.

✦ Develop Brand Identity: Create a distinctive brand and standardize a video format for lesson shoots.

✦ Apply Identity: Integrate the brand across the product, interface, and packaging.

✦ Deploy, Test, and Iterate: Launch the solution, gather feedback, and continuously refine the process.

Deployed Solution

✦ The Yodabox - An offline capable device with an intuitive interface and 1400+ Prerecorded Videos on Math, English, Science and Social Studies

✦ The Yellow Books - Books that supplement the Yodabox lessons and ecourages active learning

The Outcome

✦ At its peak, Yodabox was deployed in over 10 schools, reaching more than 500 parents.

✦ During the pandemic, when traditional classrooms shut down, Yodabox provided an effective alternative to in-class teaching, driving a significant spike in sales.

Final Thoughts

The experience was intentionally simplified and provided a convenient journey, successfully meeting essential needs and making a real impact during challenging times. However, there is still room for improvement. We see more opportunities to refine our design and add delightful touches that enhance engagement and user satisfaction. This reflection encourages us to continuously iterate and evolve our solutions for an even more compelling educational experience.
